Charlie Munger's Secret to Success

Exploit your own mind to find solutions to problems quickly and achieve your goals!

Why We Always Find Negativity

Today I’m going to teach you a powerful framework that I learned from Charlie Munger (Warren Buffet’s right hand man). This simple framework will help you achieve your goals a lot faster.

First things first though:

To understand why this method works, you need to know a bit about our minds.

Our minds are programmed for our survival, and absolutely not for becoming successful! This is the reason why we easily recognize problems, threats, negativity, and so on. That’s our mind’s defense mechanism doing its job.

(And humanity would literally be extinct without it)

But there’s an issue…

Because our minds are always quick to jump to the worst-case scenario, finding solutions is a lot harder. Our minds aren’t programmed to look for solutions and positives. Very sad. Much problem. Wow.

Munger’s Brilliant Exploit

Bad news and good news:

Bad: You’re not going to be able to reprogram this part of your brain. It was made by hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions) of years of evolution.

Good: We can exploit this defense mechanism!

What I learned from Charlie is Inversion Thinking.

Rather than looking for all of the things you can do to achieve your goals, do the opposite. Ask yourself, what are all the things I can do to guarantee failure? What are the ways in which everything can go south?

Your mind is going to find that MUCH easier than looking for positives.

When something comes to mind, write it down.

You will now have a list of things that will make sure you don’t achieve your goals. Now, you do the inverse of those (Hey, that’s the name of this thing!). Write down what to do instead to avoid the negatives.

Bonus points if you can write out a step by step plan based on this.

How to Stop Getting Distracted So Easily

Have you ever tried working on an important task, but your head felt.. full. You were thinking about another project, the 4 PM meeting, an argument last week, new ideas, random thoughts, having to buy pasta after work, etc. etc. etc.

And because of those thoughts, you couldn’t focus anymore.

Great news!

Today’s audio lesson covers how to reduce those distractions and work with focus:

Destroying Self-Sabotage Like a Pro

Have you ever been in cycle where you make progress towards a goal… but then you regress back. You make another effort, get results and fall back afterwards. And despite all of your effort, you simply can’t seem to achieve your goal…

In this video, I cover why that happens and how to overcome self sabotage:

And so, I’m back to this format again. After trying some of the shorter emails, this more elaborate newsletter feels like the way to go for me. It allows me to go deep whenever a technique requires more explanation.

I’ll probably be doing some shorter emails in-between my longer emails as well.

Keep an eye on that inbox! ;)
